Webmarketing: SEO, PPC, Adwords

You and I determine how search engines work. It is a fact that SEO (search engine optimisation) and PPC (Pay Per Click) campaigns are designed mainly around consumer behaviour.

It works like this:

  1. Google, Yahoo and the likes analyse the types of searches internet users make on the internet; the keywords and phrases typed in to the search box. These words are captured in databases automatically and are processed in to statistics and translated in to various categories such as trends, popularity, time, date, country, zone, browser, and etcetera.
  2. The primary business function of the search engines are to best match the users intended search to relevant or desired links. The higher the relevance the higher the popularity of the search engine – this is all very theoretical but it kind of makes sense.
  3. The higher the popularity of a search engine the larger the marketing reach they can offer to companies making use of the internet as part of their marketing strategy… the higher their income from advertising. Google makes an estimated 5.9 Billion USD per annum from paid advertising.
  4. By studying user and consumer trends generated by Google and other professional statistics a website or product can greatly increase its visibility on the internet. This off course translates in to either sales or brand awareness, depending on the initial campaign goals and the capabilities of the professional that managed it.

The power of effective marketing does not sit in the hands of massive media houses any longer. You and I are becoming increasingly important role players. More and more consumers are using the internet as the main source of research. If you need visibility, a well-structured and measurable ‘adwords’ or ‘seo’ campaign could make all the difference.

I also offer turnkey solutions on website development. I do this as there is both a misperception and massive need on owning an effective website. Firstly I need to state that I am not an expert in HTML coding and neither am I a fundi with graphic design – but I can get around. I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR CUSTOMERS WANT! I buy premium templates and integrate them on WordPress. This is the right way to go for most companies with a desire to have an interactive online presence.

If the work is beyond my level of expertise, I employ subcontractors to assist in areas where programming is neccesary. This site was developed using a combination of free software and a commercial theme.

A website, depending on your needs can cost you as little as R20.00 per month after the initial setup and development (starting from around R1000.00). Or, it could cost you R 50 000.00 once off and a monthly fee of R 5000.00. It all depends on what you need and want. And that is perhaps the most important point to be made. If you sell washers, nuts and bolts to the mines in your area, you will not apply for office space in the local retail mall. Your business will dictate you will need offices in the industrial area where the rent is lower and the facilities and access is more suitable to your business operations.

The same applies to websites. If you have no real business generated from the internet, an entry level website could give you the required online presence you seek and need. Yet if you try to sell helmet cameras nationally through the internet, your success will be influeced by the sophistication of your website.
